Organisers at Scottish music festival T in the Park have announced the return of Fancy Dress Friday, an event first held at the event in 2008.

Last year, T in the Park bosses invited fans to arrive in wacky fancy dress of any kind – from superhero get-ups to historical costumes – to turn Friday into the most colourful day of the festival.

They said: “Whatever you do, make sure you pull out all the stops! T in the Parkers always do it best so show us what the festival means to you.”

The result was a range of costumes, spanning from the laughable to the outrageous, with colourful wigs, flags and face paints being par for the course throughout the day.

In 2009, the festival – which is held in Balado, Kinross-shire from July 10 to 12 – will welcome back fancy dress revellers in style. The ‘T Lady’ will be on hand to seek out the funniest and most inspired costumes, and the winners will receive VIP passes to T in the Park 2010.

What’s more, organisers will also be throwing a party in the Silent Disco tent on Friday July 10 from 1 to 5pm to involve participants and find the best costumes.

Friday’s line-up at the festival promises some acclaimed international acts, including Kings of Leon, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as Scottish favourites Franz Ferdinand, The View and Idlewild.

Together, the mix of great music and fancy dress fun is set to make Friday at this year’s T in the Park one that everyone at the festival will remember.

Klaxons

Festival goers enjoying themselves at Glastonbury were in for an extra treat this weekend, when pop stars the Klaxons played a secret set in fancy dress.

The band appeared on the Park Stage resplendent in film and TV inspired costumes – including Simon Taylor as Edward Scissorhands and James Righton in a Beetlejuice outfit with crazy wigs, as well as Jamie Reynolds in a headless man costume.

The band launched into Atlantis to Interzone and the crowd immediately reacted with great enthusiasm. At the end of the song, Righton yelled “surprise” into the microphone before instructing the band to play the entire song again.

A great reception met the remainder of the Klaxons set and the band played all their biggest hits, as well as some new tracks in the hope of further whetting the appetite of fans hungry for the band’s upcoming second album.

According to the BBC, journalist Rodrigo Davis said: “Well if you hadn’t been expecting Klaxons you might have thought you’d stumbled into a horror movie. Unrelenting as ever they demoed three new tracks.

“Fans may still be awaiting their elusive second album but tonight there was more than enough to [whet] their appetites.”

At the end of the set, front man Reynolds announced how much the performance meant to him. The Guardian reports that he said: “This is magical. I’ll never forget this day.”

Glastonbury, along with many other music festivals, has become synonymous with fancy dress and over-the-top costumes from festival goers and musicians alike – and this year Lady Gaga also kept the tradition alive with a selection of outrageous outfits on stage.

Seventeen British men stood trial dressed in nun’s Fancy Dress Costumes on the Greek island of Crete for flashing their bums in public, but walked free after no one showed up to testify that their behaviour was offensive.

Police said they had arrested the 17 men, aged between 18 and 65, early on Sunday at the popular resort of Malia and a prosecutor charged them with exposing themselves in public and offending religious symbols.

Apparently they were dressed like Sexy nuns, carrying crosses, but wearing thongs under their skirts and showing people their bottoms and the rest.

Arrested in the early hours , the men were taken into custody and appeared in court the following morning in the same clothes they were wearing at the time of their arrest.

But the court in the town of Iraklio ruled them innocent after no witness appeared to testify against them, the police official said.
